On June 9, according to Clarkson research, a British shipping analysis company, the number of ships ordered worldwide fell by 60% last month to 570000 CGT, or 40% of deliveries (141000 CGT).
According to national calculation, China has won 270000 CGT (13, accounting for 47%) and is still the world's largest shipbuilding company; South Korea's 230000 CGT (8, accounting for 40%) ranks second in the world, and Japan's 50000 CGT (2, accounting for 9%) ranks third.

South Korea's orders last month remained at a similar level to last month's, while China's orders fell a little, which narrowed the gap between the two orders to within 10%.
South Korea's orders from European and Asian shipowners remain at a similar level to April's (230000 CGT, 8 vessels). On the other hand, China, which has 85% of domestic orders, has seen a 73% decrease in new orders compared with the delivered quantity (730000 CGT, 38 ships) due to the decrease in domestic orders.
As a result, China's share of new shipbuilding orders in May fell 8 percentage points from 55% in April.
From January to May of this year, the largest cumulative new orders of each country / region are still China. The total new orders of China are 2.88 million CGT (121, accounting for 62%), South Korea is 900000 CGT (32, accounting for 19%), and Japan is 490000 CGT (31, accounting for 11%). China is still far ahead.

however, as three South Korean shipbuilders recently signed a space (wharf) reservation agreement with Qatar Petroleum for the construction of large liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships, it is expected that in the second half of the year, when orders for large LNG projects such as Qatar, Russia and Mozambique increase at full capacity, South Korea's share will increase significantly.
As of the end of May, the cumulative global orders were 72.25 million CGT, down 2% from the end of April. China's cumulative orders in hand are 26.24 million CGT (36%), South Korea 22.2 million CGT (28%), and Japan 12.4 million CGT (14%).
Global ship deliveries in May were 1.78 million CGT, down 14% from the end of April. According to national calculation, 930000 CGT (52%), 510000 CGT in China (29%), 270000 CGT in Japan (15%).
Compared with the delivery volume of South Korea, the tonnage of ships delivered by Japan (down 51%) and China (down 50%) decreased significantly. The large ships delivered by South Korea, including three 24000 TEUs (1 TEU = 1 20 foot long container) and five 174000 m3 LNG ships, increased by 96% over the previous month.
